Also included is a short description of the qualifications all our therapists hold and a section to provide you with an idea of the costs of such a valued, important treatment. Sports Massage is the manipulation of soft tissue for injury prevention and therapeutic purposes, involving the restoration to normal functional activity of the various structures of the body. The main aim of Sports Massage Therapy is to recognise, treat and correct soft tissue injuries related to sport and exercise. Soft tissues within the body include Muscles, Ligaments, Tendons, the Skin and specific structures that surround joints and muscles. This aim is achieved by locating the specific injury, establishing a suitable treatment, and realigning fibres in line with tensile stress placed upon the area. The effects of Sports Massage can be divided in to 3 clear areas. These are Physical, Physiological and Psychological. The Physical effects include the aiding of the removal of waste products from muscles after exercise, the stretching of muscles fibres to aid free movement and prevent muscle adhesions, the breaking down of scar tissue, which can cause tension and inflexibility, and improving tissue elasticity. Physiological effects include pain reduction, through the stimulation of mechano-receptors, relaxation and balancing the autonomous nervous system resulting in relaxation and sleep. The Psychological effects of Massage Therapy involve the development of an invigorating feeling and the reduction in anxiety. Sports Massage Therapy can also have a cathartic effect upon the client. All of our therapists have completed the Premier Global Diploma. This qualification not only educates them in the theoretical aspects of Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, the repair of soft tissues, fracture repair and classification, post injury complications and the vital importance of safety, to name but a few, but also provides them with hands on practical experience of a wide variety of sporting injuries which they may come across in the sporting environment. They are also fully qualified in the practical aspects of sports massage therapy. These include the conduction of safe and appropriate physical examinations, the treatment of soft tissue injuries through the application of scientifically based sports massage techniques and the aiding of rehabilitation of sports and exercise injuries.
